Mrs Owen's Group

I have not blogged this week's spellings or homework.

Hmmm. I normally do but if you've lost them, ask me on Tuesday. I am trying to encourage more responsibility from both children and parents. There are children who do their homework and learn their spellings every week and as such are making more progress than those who don't, both in their use of their composition skills and use of their spellings.

I know it can be hard when you've got lots to do as a parent but those children who have a little bit of encouragement and support do tend to do much better in school. So... check your child's school planner - it has their spellings and homework task in it. Ensure they understand the task, have the materials they need (dictionary and thesaurus are always a good idea) and a set amount of time in a quiet place to do it.

Praise them and encourage them to edit their work.

No written task should take longer than 30-40 minutes. Spellings should be learned for five minutes every day - little and often.

They normally have a sheet to write on for homework or they can use their own materials. I enclose my school e-mail address if anyone wants / needs it printed out or is using Powerpoint etc to present their work (not just for this week's homework).

Have a great weekend and be imaginative.
