Year 1 Homework

Good afternoon,

It has been another week of hard work and fun in Year 1. The children are continuing to settle into the routines of school, with most of them now bringing in their water bottles.

Please ensure that boys have a Capul at school as this is an important part of the King David uniform.

In year 1, we are working towards the children writing in a cursive handwriting style. The website can be accessed from home. It shows how the letters are formed with interactive videos. There is also a section marked 'phonics' where children can revise their sounds.

The username is: kingdavid_1 and the password is: letterjoinAM

We are revising ay, ee and igh. Can the children write some words that contain these sounds? eg say, hay, see, been, high, might

Please note that the spellings I send out are from the government statutory spelling list for year 1. For many children they can be difficult to learn. These spellings are tricky but I need to expose the children to them.

1. one

2. two

3. three

4. four

5. five

6. six

7. seven

8. eight

9. nine

10. ten - this site has some top tips for leaning spellings and I have sent out a sheet today with additional ideas.

Over the next few weeks we will be learning about the Geography in our local area. Unfortunately, we will not be able to go on a field trip this term. However, it would be fantastic if the children were able to make observations of their locality. Perhaps they could draw a simple map of their neighbourhood or village or even use google maps to look at their surrounding areas. Could they spot all the different types of buildings on the way to school? If you would like to email any photographs or maps or work the children have done on this so I can share in lessons, please use This email address is being protected from spambots. Maths: Please see the attached work. There is an optional mastery extension activity (with answers) too, to provide a level of challenge.

White Rose Maths is continuing to produce videos that link to the work we are doing at school. Should your child need to be off school, these can be accessed from home. They can be found at

Please note - the work below is optional.
