Topic Work - 23.09.2020

Good morning Year Six,

I hope you have been keeping yourselves well and have been working hard.

There was a lot of work posted on Monday. As I said in my phone call home, it is the core learning for the week. As a rough guide, you should completing the following a day and for the approximate lengths of time:

Word of the Day - 10 minutes

Maths - 30-40 minutes

Times Table Rock Stars - 15 minutes

Spellings - 20 minutes

Writing - 30 minutes

Reading comprehension- 20-30 minutes

Quiet reading - 15 minutes

It doesn't look much when written down like this, but don't forget, when we are in school we also have swimming on a Monday, RE on a Tuesday, Ivrit on a Wednesday, PSCHE on a Thursday and a shorter day after Kiddush on a Friday. As well as these, we have assembly every day for fifteen minutes, break time for another fifteen minutes and lunch for 55 minutes. That's not forgetting all the other lessons and activities like computing, Golden Mile, Golden Time, topic lessons....

Don't forget to write the instructions for the honey cakes we made on Thursday so I can create a display when you return to school.

Here is some topic work for you to complete.

History Detectives

I would like you to use primary and secondary resources to research who was responsible for the sinking of the Titanic. There is a booklet below with lots of questions and prompts to help you to find the answer. You do not need to print the booklet as you can write the answers in your homework book and look at the sources on the screen. There are two writing tasks for you to complete when you have finished exploring the sources. Remember my expectations when writing - look in the back of your planner and the end of key stage two expectations sheet I blogged on Friday.

Titanic Maths

I have attached some using and applying/problem solving activities involving time, money and percentages for you to complete. These do not need to be printed as you can complete the work in the maths book I provided. Don't forget to show your working out.

Titanic Science

I have found a quick science investigation you can complete at home. There is a lesson plan for you to follow, the teaching slides to guide you through and worksheets to help you complete the investigation. You should find everything you need in your kitchen. There are lots of worksheets attached as there are two different investigations. You do not have to do both however I think you would gain a lot from doing so. Read the lesson plan carefully as it explain which worksheet you can use to guide you through the investigation. You do not need to print them as you can write your findings in your homework book.

Don't forget to complete the plenary task: write a paragraph to explain why an iceberg floats. Use the scientific language you have explored in the session.

I look forward to receiving examples of your work by Thursday afternoon so I can share it on the blog on Friday.

I will be phoning home again either today or Thursday so keep an eye out for my call.

If you need anything, please do not hesitate to phone the school or send me an email and I will do my very best to help.

Take care and keep you and your family safe.
