Resource for Keeping Children Motivated and Managing Behaviour

Keeping the children motivated and managing their behaviour can be particularly difficult during social isolation. The truth is that we all need to keep motivated during these times. Using tokens economy and reward cards to enthuse, motivate and manage children's behaviour was one of the key techniques which all teachers used (and still do) when I worked as a teacher in the USA. The files below contain an editable resource that can be adapted for homeschooling and might work for you and your family. Do remember that though unhealthy food rewards works really well,  it can cause more harm than good. From a healthy eating lifestyle point, sugary foods and foods containing caffeine will affect your child's energy level causing it to peak (sometimes making their behaviour harder to manage) and then drop, which would work as a demotivater for them to follow your programme for the day. From an emotional/ psychological wellbeing stance, you don't want children to link rewards to eating, especially unhealthy foods. This can lead to all sorts of problems later in life such as binge eating and other eating disorders G-d forbid. Good examples of healthy rewards are phoning a friend, controlled screen time, longer time playing outside, extra free time, prizes, etc. Please keep in mind that most things work some of the time. Let me know if it works for you and what ideas you have chosen to put on the reward cards. You can contact me on This email address is being protected from spambots.
